Weekly Pursuit 11 - If You've Got a Pulse

WEEKLY PURSUIT with Ryan

Helping you pursue God, people, and purpose - one step at a time.

Hey friend,

Your heart will beat about 100,000 times today. You won't think about a single one of them.

That's the quietest miracle happening in your body right now. And most of us never even notice it.

I spent some time this week at a Christian family camp, standing in front of a room full of people, trying to get them to notice it.

Because here's what I told them, and it's the same thing I've been telling myself all week:

If He's given you a pulse, He's given you a purpose.

That's not a slogan. That's a promise.

But here's where we usually get the order wrong. We think purpose is something we earn. Get disciplined enough. Get qualified enough. Get our lives together enough. Then God will use us.

Purpose doesn't work that way. It never has.

Before God gives you an assignment, He gives you His affection. You don't perform your way into being loved. You're already loved, and purpose grows out of that soil, not the other way around.

So that's where I started with that room. Not with what's your purpose, but with who loves you first.

Then we got to the part where it gets specific.

Because it turns out, before God gives any of us a unique calling, He gives all of us a shared one.

Jesus was asked once to name the greatest commandment. He didn't need a second to think about it.

Love God. Love people. (Matthew 22)

Then, right before He headed back up to Heaven, He added one more line to the assignment.

Go and make disciples. Baptize them. Teach them to obey Jesus. (Matthew 28)

That's it. That's the calling every single follower of Jesus shares, no exceptions, no auditions required.

Love God. Love people. Go make disciples.

Every believer, same assignment.

But God didn't stop there. He also gave you a shape nobody else has.

Your spiritual gifts. Your heart. Your abilities. Your personality. Your experiences.

Run those five things together and you get something that has never existed before and will never exist again. That's not a devotional metaphor. That's just math.

(There's a free resource that walks you through your own SHAPE. I'll drop it below.)

Which brings me back to that room full of families, and back to you.

There's no shortage of rooms in Heaven.

Jesus said He went ahead to prepare a place for us, and Heaven has never once run out of anything, ever.

So He's not up there waiting on housekeeping to finish your room before He calls you home.

If you're still here, still breathing, still unpacking the car from camp or sitting at a desk full of deadlines...

He's got you here for a reason.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Better | Week 7

Hebrews 11 is often called the "Hall of Faith," but it's much more than a list of biblical heroes. It's a powerful reminder that faith isn't just something we believe - it's something we live.

S.H.A.P.E.

If you've never taken a SHAPE assessment, this one's worth your time. It walks you through your Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences so you can see how God specifically wired you for your calling.

So here's my challenge for you this week:

Stop waiting to feel purposeful. Start living loved.

Then go love God, love people, and make disciples with whatever shape He built into you.

If He's given you a pulse, He's given you a purpose.

Go live like it.

Praying,
Ryan
