Weekly Pursuit 07 - Legacy

WEEKLY PURSUIT with Ryan

Helping you pursue God, people, and purpose - one step at a time.

Hey friend,

This past Sunday, we spent some time talking about legacy.

When most people hear that word, they think about accomplishments, success, influence, or what they'll be remembered for after they're gone. We tend to measure legacy by what we've built, what we've achieved, or what we've accumulated.

But the more I've thought about it, the more convinced I am that the greatest legacy we leave isn't found in what we accomplish.

It's found in where we place our faith.

Hebrews 4 points us back to the Israelites—a generation that witnessed God's power, experienced His provision, and heard His promises. Yet many of them never stepped into all that God had for them because they struggled to trust Him.

Their story reminds us of something important:

Faith isn't just a Sunday thing.

Faith shapes the direction of our lives.

Every day, we're placing our trust somewhere. Sometimes it's in our own abilities. Sometimes it's in our plans, our resources, or our ability to control outcomes. And if we're honest, many of us spend a lot of energy trying to carry burdens we were never meant to carry.

But God invites us into something different.

He invites us to trust Him.

To surrender what we can't control.

To believe that He is faithful, even when life feels uncertain.

And when we do, something changes.

We begin to experience the kind of peace that isn't dependent on circumstances. The kind of confidence that isn't rooted in our own strength. The kind of rest that comes from knowing God is still on the throne.

I think that's one of the greatest gifts we can give the people around us.

Not perfection.

Not having all the answers.

Not pretending we've got it all together.

But showing them what it looks like to trust Jesus.

Our children are watching.
Our friends are watching.
Our coworkers are watching.

And whether we realize it or not, we're teaching people every day where our confidence is found.

The beautiful news of Hebrews 4 is that our confidence doesn't come from ourselves.

It comes from Jesus.

Because of Him, we can approach the throne of grace with confidence. Because of Him, we don't have to strive for God's acceptance. Because of Him, we can trust that God is working even when we can't see it.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

So this week, here's a simple question to consider:

Where am I placing my faith?

Because the greatest legacy you'll leave won't be what you accomplish.
It will be where you place your trust.

Praying,
Ryan
